Hi, I'm Terry

I’ve been serving the central coast of California for nearly 30 years as a colon hydrotherapist, and loved every minute of it. I am certified by the International Association of Colon Hydrotherapy, and I’ve sat on the board for the organization as a passionate advocate and a lifelong learner.

I have helped thousands of clients regain their health and happiness by discovering their unique journey to wellbeing. This is the key, as I’ve learned - there is not one path to healing. Rather, we all must find our own way back to radiant health. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to support so many in embarking on this empowering and transformational journey.

"Terry is one of the best. She learned her craft 30 years ago from the woman who was basically the godmother of colonics in the U.S. Terry is extremely knowledgeable, knowing when to let the water do its work; or alternately, when, where and how to massage to get the sludge to come loose. She is experienced with treatment augmentation, like coffee colonics, and also has an intuitive sense about what other things might help me. Highly recommend!!"

What can I expect in a session?

Colon hydrotherapy is a gentle infusion of warm, filtered water into the large intestine. The client relaxes comfortably on a massage table as the practitioner very slowly runs water into the colon, gently stimulating peristalisis. When slight pressure builds up in the colon, the water is released. As the water is flowing out through an illuminated glass viewing tube, the abdominal area is massaged. This process is repeated during the hour-long treatment. There may be slight cramping sensations right before a release. Using state of the art, FDA-registered colon hydrotherapy equipment with disposable speculum, each client can be assured that there is no risk of cross-contamination during the session.

How does colon hydrotherapy work?

Colon hydrotherapy targets bowel function as well as bowel flora thus enabling the delicate and reciprocal interactions that exist between the mind, the gut and the microbes that populate it, to be harmonized. Through the use of abdominal massage, varying water pressure and temperature, colon hydrotherapy directly affects peristalsis (the natural movements of the gut that help propel bowel content) and bowel function. The combination of massage and water deeply cleanses the colon. This releases gas pockets and built up stools, relieving abdominal bloating and pressure on the lower back, bladder, ovaries/prostate and diaphragm. The physical goals of each session are to hydrate the system, remove waste, stimulate peristalsis, rehabilitate the nerves, muscles, glands, circulatory and immune systems that form the components of the digestive system, and to reposition the intestines.

What are the benefits?

Colon hydrotherapy is of great benefit to conditions involving compromised digestion and elimination, such as constipation, diarrhea, gas and bloating, indigestion, yeast infections (candida), intestinal parasites, hemorrhoids, and irritable bowel. Additionally, colon hydrotherapy can be valuable in alleviating symptoms associated with allergies, asthma, acne, eczema, psoriasis, arthritis, headaches, low energy and fatigue, poor concentration, anxiety, irritability, depression, and weight gain.

Are there contra-indications?

Patients who suffer from the following conditions should not do colon hydrotherapy: - Abdominal hernia - Recent colon or rectal surgery - Renal insufficiency - Colitis - Diverticulitis - Cirrhosis - Congestive heart failure - Severe hemorrhoids - Uncontrolled hypertension - Dialysis patients - GI hemorrhage - Carcinoma - Colostomy

Will colon hydrotherapy remove "good" bacteria?

No. The bacterial colonies that make up the microbiome exist within the layers of the mucosal membrane. Just like drinking a glass of water doesn’t completely eliminate bacteria from the mouth, nor does colon hydrotherapy. In fact, maintaining a cleansed internal environment with colonics and clean eating invites beneficial bacteria to thrive. Whereas retaining waste and stagnation invite pathogenic bacteria and parasites.

Will a session completely empty the colon?

Rarely. A mild cleanse will typically take 2-3 sessions over the course of 1-3 weeks, depending on the client. Other factors that influence colon health include diet and lifestyle habits. Colon hydrotherapy is most effective in conjunction with these influences. We encourage each individual to find the diet that works best for them.

What is the gut microbiome?

The microbiome is a vast and diverse ecosystem of micro-organisms that provide nature’s critical capacity for energy metabolism and communication between the cells of all species, including humans. This integrated community of bacteria, protozoa, fungi, and even parasites exists around, on, and within each of us. It constitutes our unique microbiome that determines our genetics, energy production, and even our mental health by facilitating communication and connection between us and the natural world. In fact, we are mostly microbes, with some estimates showing we have at least 10 times as many microbial cells as human cells within our bodies. Our microbiome assists in the digestion of food, regulates immune function, and produces essential nutrients for the production of over 200,000 unique proteins ranging from detox enzymes to neurotransmitters. In essence, our wellbeing is dependent on a well-functioning, balanced, and diverse microbiome. A balanced microbiome communicates with the intestinal cells to maintain a strong gut barrier as a first line of defense for the immune system, and prevents monoculture overgrowth of bacteria or other organisms. On the other hand, a dysfunctional, unbalanced microbiome may contribute to impaired immune health, digestive issues, brain fog, and a long list of the chronic disorders and diseases that have become pandemic in recent decades. For our microbiome to thrive, it needs a healthy space to live, with the gut lining functioning at the foundation. Two tennis courts of surface area from nose to rectum, it is the largest barrier system between our bodies and the outside world. This barrier, called the epithelial layer, is only one cell layer thick (half the width of a human hair) and is delicately held together by cellular seals called tight junctions. Coated in what is best described as a mucosal “terrain,” this is where our gut microbiome lives.

How does colon hydrotherapy affect gut health?

Colon hydrotherapy does not strip the gut microbiome, as most of the microbes are living in the gut lining. While it does remove some microbes, the flush doesn’t differentiate between “good” and “bad” bacteria. Rather, colon hydrotherapy helps to expel toxins from harmful microbes and improve the environment of the gut, alleviating a range of symptoms. Combined with detoxifying dietary choices, exercise, and emotional regulation, colon hydrotherapy can help heal the gut microbiome.

What is the history of colon hydrotherapy?

Professional colon hydrotherapy benefits are being rediscovered globally and regarded as the foremost among cleansing treatments and technologies. Long before the word "colonic" came to use, popular healers of ancient times understood the need to cleanse the colon. Archeologists' uncovered writings on colon health and cleansing set down by ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian societies dating back to 5,000 B.C. As people explored new land and spread across the globe, the medical practice of colon cleansing and healing also expanded and evolved. Since ancient times, from continent to continent and over thousands of years, the cleansing of the colon remained a staple method of healing the intestinal tract and promoting internal health. The writings of Plato, Hippocrates, Aristotle, Galen, Pare' and Da Vinci reveal that the founding fathers of modern medicine understood and practiced early methods of cleansing the colon for a wide variety of health conditions and afflictions. From average citizens to aristocrats and royalty, cleansing the colon was the recognized protocol for intestinal cleansing. No matter the reference, (i.e., enemas, high colonics, colon cleansing, colon irrigation) the result was a sense of good health and wellbeing.

How often should I do a session?

While each person is different, both in their needs and responses, it is generally advisable to begin with a minimum of 3 sessions to receive a thorough cleanse of the colon. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, water acts as a solvent to soften and break up encrusted waste; as colonics is a gentle therapy, this process must be repeated in order to allow the water to fully saturate hardened fecal matter, and to permeate areas where accumulation or blockages have occurred. Secondly, restoring the shape and muscle tone of the colon requires that the colon be exercised over a period of time, in much the same way as any other muscle would require a regular workout to keep it strong and toned. Following the initial three sessions, the client and practitioner can decide together on a session plan to support the needs of the individual. In general, a monthly maintenance cleanse is advisable to keep the colon hydrated and toned.

How does colon hydrotherapy affect weight loss?

Colon hydrotherapy can help with initial weight loss, but long-term weight loss is achieved by behavioral and dietary changes in conjunction with the treatment. As a benefit, the colon hydrotherapy will alter the environment of your colon so that you desire more clean, whole unprocessed foods. This in turn will help you naturally lose weight.
